James Keesling was born in Indianapolis, Ind, USA, in 1942. He received B.S. degree in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Miami in 1964. He was awarded the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Miami in 1968. He has been a member of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Florida since 1967. He serves as Professor of mathematics and has held this rank since 1975. His publications are mostly in the fields of topology, dynamical systems theory, and fractal geometry. He also works in the fields of biomathematics and stochastic processes. He was a Managing Editor of topology and its Applications from 2000-2008. He is currently on the Advisory Board for that journal and an Associate Editor of Revista Mátematica Complutense. He is currently Chair of Mathematics at the University of Florida and has held this position since 2008.
