Noel Alpins is an active Cataract and Refractive Surgeon and works as the Medical Director of NewVision Clinics in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Alpins has spoken widely on cataract and refractive surgery topics and has been a keynote Speaker at many Australian and international meetings. He pioneered small incision cataract surgery in Victoria and is the founder and current Member of the Excimer Laser & Research Group. He is also an Associate Fellow at the University of Melbourne where he completed his Diploma of ophthalmology in 1977 and F.R.A.C.S. degree prior to commencing practice in general ophthalmology. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Ocular Surgery News and Eurotimes and the International Scholarly Research Network (ISRN) series of journals. In addition, he has published widely in these and other ophthalmic information journals and book chapters. Dr. Alpins has developed new techniques in the treatment and analysis of astigmatism and holds patents in astigmatism treatment and analysis in Australia, USA, and internationally. He has developed the ASSORT computer program for vector planning and for outcomes analysis of cataract and refractive surgery. Furthermore, he developed the Alpins method of astigmatism analysis in 1991, founded ASSORT Pty. Ltd. in 1992 to market the ASSORT planning and outcome analysis computer program for cataract and refractive surgery, and Performed first phacoemulsification procedure in Victoria in May 1987. He also got the Gold Medal International Academy for Advances in Ophthalmology, 2006. Alpins was an invited Lecture Speaker at RANZCO Adelaide 2010, council lecture. He was also Australia Day Ambassador in 2011. When Noel is not practicing ophthalmology, he enjoys playing golf, skiing, going to live entertainment, and spending time with Sylvia his wife and their three daughters.
