Núria Fontanals obtained her Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at the University of Rovira i Virgili ,Tarragona, Spain, in 2005, supervised by Professor Francesc Borrull and Dr. Rosa M. Marcé, working on the preparation of new resins for online SPE coupled to LC to determine polar pollutants in environmental water samples. During her postdoctoral period (2005-2007), Fontanals worked with Professor Jönsson at the University of Lund, Lund, Sweden (2005-2006), where she became skilled with different extraction and separation techniques. She also joined Professor Sherrington and Professor Cormack's Research Group at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, where she expanded her experience in the preparation of novel materials to be applied in analytical fields. Since 2007, Fontanals has been working at the University of Rovira i Virgili as Senior Researcher. Her main research activity is based on the development of sensible and selective methods to determine organic contaminants from environmental samples. She also has a wide experience in preparing novel materials for sorptive extraction techniques. She has more than 25 peer-reviewed papers, 2 book chapters, and 1 patent. She has presented more than 30 communications in international conferences. She has also participated in more than 30 research projects and transfer contracts.
