Nicoletta Fornara works as a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano, Switzerland and a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering, at Politecnico di Milano Polo Regionale di Como, Como, Italy. She received a Ph.D. degree in communication sciences, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano, Switzerland in 2003 for a work on the definition of a commitment-based agent communication language (ACL) and protocols for multiagent systems. From 1998 to 2001, she served as a Research Collaborator at IDSIA (Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence), Manno, Switzerland. She received a Laurea in Scienze dell´Informazione from Università degli Studi of Milan, Milan, Italy in 1995. Nicoletta Fornara is a Member of the Steering committee of Coordination, Organization, Institutions and Norms in agent systems (COIN) Workshop series; she is a Substitute Member for Switzerland Management Committee of the COST Action IC0801 on Agreement Technologies and of the COST Action IS1004 on WEBDATANET: web-based, data-collection, methodological challenges, solutions and implementations. Her research mainly focuses on agents and multiagent Systems, specifically on the semantics of agent communication languages (ACL) and on modeling of artificial institutions for the specification of Open interaction Systems. Other interests include semantic web technology, collaborative systems, and service oriented computing.
