Hiroaki Miyajima

Hiroaki Miyajima was born in Nagano, Japan, in 1956. He received the M.D. degree (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. degree from the Hamamatsu University School of Medicine (HUSM), Hamamatsu, Japan, in 1981 and 1989, respectively. Since 1981, Miyajima has been with the Medical and Neurological Laboratory of HUSM. In 1996, he was a Research Associate at HUSM. From 1999 to 2009, Miyajima was an Associate Professor of the Department of Medicine at HUSM. Presently, he is a Professor. He is mainly interested in neurodegenerative disorders associated with iron and copper metabolism, especially aceruloplasminemia. In 2002, he had the Outstanding Abstracts Award of 26th International Congress of Internal Medicine. Also he was awarded a Silver Medal of Video Olympics, Movement Disorders Society’s 13th International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. Miyajima has been a BioIron Member since 2003.
