Walter U. Basso

Walter U. Basso was born on 1967. He received a degree in veterinary medicine (médico veterinario) at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences (FCV), National University of La Plata (UNLP), Argentina on 1992. In 2004, he received a Doctoral degree in veterinary sciences (Doctor en ciencias veterinarias) with focus on parasitology at the FCV UNLP, Argentina. He had a doctoral thesis entitled “Possible definitive hosts of Neospora caninum” at the Institute of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases FCV UNLP. Since March 15, 2009, he served as an Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Parasitology, University of Zürich, Switzerland. From 1995 to 2009, he worked at the laboratory of Immunoparasitology, FCV. UNLP., Argentina. His main fields of research are parasitological, immunological and molecular aspects of animal, and zoonotic infections caused by apicomplexan protozoa (toxoplasmosis, neosporosis, cryptosporidiosis, and sarcocystosis). From 2007 to 2009, he served as a Researcher of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET: Comisión de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas), Argentina. From October 2007 to March 2009, he worked as a Researcher at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Institute of Epidemiology, Wusterhausen, Germany. His main field of research includes neosporosis, besnoitiosis, and toxoplasmosis. Since March 2009, he conducted research activities at the Institute of Parasitology of the University of Zurich, Switzerland and his main field of research was besnoitiosis, toxoplasmosis.
