Mário Pacheco

Mário Pacheco was born in Paredes, Portugal, in 1965. He received the degree of biology (1988) from the University of Porto, Porto, Portugal and the Ph.D. degree (2000) from the University of Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal. Since 1989, he teaches in the Biology Department of the University of Aveiro. Up to 2000, he was Assistant and presently he is Assistant Professor in the same university. From 1994 to 2000, Pacheco was Member of the “Coastal Zones and Ocean Research Centre" (CZCM) of the University of Aveiro. Since 2000, he is an Integrated Researcher in the Associate Laboratory “Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies" (CESAM). He is mainly interested in aquatic toxicology: toxicity mechanisms of the main classes of contaminants (e.g. metals, PAHs, pesticides) in aquatic organisms, molecular toxicology and risk assessment,oxidative stress, biotransformation metabolism, genotoxicity, and endocrine disruption. He is coauthor of about 80 referred papers and has participated in several research projects, being presently coordinator (PI) of one of them.
