José Manuel Pérez Martín received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, in 1992. His fields of expertise include anticancer drugs, aptamers, medicinal chemistry, and molecular pharmacology. He is a coauthor of more than 100 papers in international journals including two chemical reviews papers, book chapters, and cover and backcover pages in Chemical Reviews, Molecular Pharmacology, and Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry. He is also the Editor of two books: Metal Compounds in Cancer Chemotherapy (Signpost Research, 2005) and Programme Cell Death in Protozoa (Springer: Landes Bioscience, 2008). He is a Member of the Advisory Board of Current Medicinal Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery, and International Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. Moreover, he was an Associate Profesor at the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid for 8 years. At present, he is the Director of the Development of Bioapter, S.L., a biotechnology company, which is devoted to the synthesis and production of aptamers as theraputic and diagnosis tools.
