Elisardo Becona is a Professor of clinical psychology in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain). His Ph.D. degree was in psychology. His principal areas of work are the addictions, as assessment, prevention, and psychological treatment of tobacco, alcohol abuse, cocaine, pathological gambling, and the Internet addiction. He was the Director of the Smoking Cessation Unit in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology in the University of Santiago de Compostela. He published several seminal books in Spanish about drug prevention, smoking cessation, and psychological treatment of addictions.
