Heinz C. Schröder
Heinz C. Schröder studied chemistry and medicine and completed his Ph.D. degree (1980) and his M.D. degree (1983) with distinction (summa cum laude). From 1982 to 1984, he was the Recipient of a Liebig Fellowship from the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie (Germany). Since 1985, he has been a Professor at the University of Mainz (Institute for Physiological Chemistry, University Medical Center). He has received several awards in recognition of his work, among them Boehringer Ingelheim Award 1980, Johannes Gutenberg University Award 1983, Louise Eylmann Foundation Award for Gerontology 1985, Max-Bürger Award (German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics) 1988, Third Age Award (International Association of Gerontology) 1989, and Innovation Award 2002. His research interests are in the field of biomineralization, biotechnology, and bioactive compounds from marine organisms. He has more than 350 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is/was a Coordinator of several EU projects in FP5, FP6, and FP7.
