Houcine Boughanmi obtained his B.S. degree from the University of Tunis, Tunis, Tunisia; his M.S. degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA; and his Ph.D. degree from Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR, USA. He is an Associate Professor of agricultural economics and the Head of the Department of Natural Resource Economics at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Muscat, Oman. Dr. Boughanmi has 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and community services and has published extensively in reputable academic journals. Dr. Boughanmi's research interest includes international trade using partial and general equilibrium modeling, food demand, food policy, and food security. He published on the effect of WTO on Oman's trade and the GCC regional trade arrangements and is currently leading a research project on the effect of the food crisis on household welfare. He served as a coinvestigator in a number of SQU funded research projects in the areas of agricultural production and marketing. Dr. Boughanmi has recently organized an international conference to discuss food security strategies in the Arab countries with key note speakers from IFPRI, the Borlaug Institute, the Arab Organization of Agricultural Development (AOAD), and other international organizations.
