Yoshihiko Sakurai received the B.B.A. degree from the Kobe University, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in 1978, and the M.D. degree from the Nara Medical University, Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, Japan, in 1993, followed by residency training in pediatrics and hematology at the Nara Medical University Hospital. He prosecuted his studies on thrombosis and hemostasis at the Nara Medical University Graduate School of Medicine under the direction of Professor Yoshihiro Fujimura (blood transfusion medicine) and received the Ph.D. degree in 1999. Following this, Sakurai conducted postdoctoral research at the Jerome H. Holland Laboratory (Rockville, MD, USA). He was with the Department of Pediatrics at the Nara Medical University as a Clinical Associate Professor in 2000 and a Chief of Pediatrics at the Nara Prefectural Mimuro Hospital in 2010. Currently, he works for Matsubara Tokushukai Hospital in Osaka. His research interests lie in the field of allergy and clinical immunology and thrombosis and hemostasis, in particular the linkage between coagulation and inflammation/immune response.
