David J. Bzik
David J. Bzik, a holder of the Ph.D. degree, is a Professor of microbiology and immunology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, NH, USA. Dr. Bzik has been engaged in leading scientific research in the fields of virology and parasitology for 3 decades. His lab has made major contributions to the understanding of malaria and the development of drug targets and vaccines. His recent research area has focused on the related parasite Toxoplasma gondii that is an important pathogen and model organism. His lab is also engaged in drug discovery by identifying targets in nucleotide acquisition pathways that are essential for parasite survival. He also investigates host response to parasite infection, how immune control is established, and novel attenuated mutants of Toxoplasma gondii in vaccine development for infectious diseases and cancer immunotherapy.
