Mogon Patel graduated from the University of Aston in Birmingham, UK, in 1984 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. This was followed by studies at The University of Manchester (UMIST), Manchester, UK, for an M.S. degree in polymer science and technology and a Ph.D. degree in 1989 for research into the rheological and viscoelastic behaviours of polymers. He worked in Scotland for Mobil Oil on the rheology of drilling fluids before joining the Materials Science Research Group, Chemical Technology Division, at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston, UK, in November 1991. He is currently a Principal Specialist within the Organic Materials Team at AWE working primarily on the development of new materials, materials life assessment, and polymer characterisation. The success of Patel’s work at AWE has been recognised by twice winning the highly prestigious Science and Engineering Technology (Charley-Martin) Awards in 2007 and again in 2008. Patel has authored or/and coauthored over 40 technical publications in the open literature.
