Alain Privat

Alain Privat was born in Neuilly, France in 1943. He received his M.D. degree, in 1968, and his Ph.D. degree in 1972, both at the University of Paris. After a postdoctorate in McGill University, Montreal, in 1968-1970, he was hired in INSERM, in Paris, then moved to Montpellier in 1982, where he created his own INSERM laboratory in 1989, devoted to the pathologies of the spinal cord. He has been, since 1982, a Full Professor at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. He has been one of the founders of the International Society of Developmental Neuroscience, Member of SFN since its foundation, Member of the French Society of Neurosciences, Founding Member of the French Society of Neuropathology, and Member of the French Academy of Medicine. He is Member of the Editorial Boards of JNR, IJDN. Since December 2009, he has been Chairman of the Board Neureva, a biotech company. He has published more than 300 original articles in peer-reviewed journals, mostly on the development and the pathology of the central nervous system, and especially on the spinal cord.
