A. Miguel P. Santos

A. Miguel P. Santos has a degree in marine biology, a Ph.D. degree in geophysical sciences and oceanography from the University of Lisboa, and more than 20 years of research experience on the relationships between the environment and marine species (ecology and recruitment). Since 2001, he works as a Senior Scientist in the Portuguese Oceanic and Atmospheric Institute (former Portuguese Institute for Fisheries and Sea Research). He is a Member of the Portuguese IGBP/Global Change Committee, IMBER, and LOICZ National focal point and was the GLOBEC National Representative until 2010. He has been involved, as a Coordinator and PI, in many national and international projects. In the last years, his research has focused on the physical-biological interactions in the ocean throughout an end-to-end approach and in the impact of global change in the ocean, reflected in more than 60 papers (38 in peer-reviewed scientific journals). Other areas of interest/expertise are fisheries oceanography, fish ecology mainly of pelagic species, and the applications of remote sensing to marine fisheries and oceanography.
