R. C. Sihag studied biology, and he did his M.S. degree in zoology and his Ph.D. degree in ecology/apiculture. Since 1979, he has been on the faculty of Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India. He has been an Assistant Scientist of honey bees (1979–1988), an Associate Professor and a Team Leader of beekeeping (1988–1995), and a Professor of beekeeping and crop pollination ecology (since 1995). He was also assigned as the Head of the Department of Zoology and Aquaculture (1997–2000) and the Dean of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities (2001–2006). He is the recipient of the prestigious Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, India, in 1980 and 1982; the Group Award-cum-Certificate of Appreciation from the US Department of Agriculture in 1993; the Scroll of Honour from the International Conference on Plant Sciences at Amravati, India, in 2005; the Life Time Achievement Award for Conservation of Biodiversity and Environment from the Environment Society of India, Chandigarh, India, in 2007; and the E.P. Odum Memorial Award for Conservation of Environment from Educational, Cultural and Social Welfare Society of India, Hisar, India, in 2008. He was elected as a Fellow of the highly prestigious Royal Entomological Society, London, UK, in 1997. Moreover, he had been the Chairperson of Pollination Section of Asian Apicultural Association from1992 to 2006. Presently, he is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Ecology and Natural Environment. He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of Asian Bee Journal; Journal of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences; Journal of Environmental Science, Policy and Planning; Journal of Ecology, Ecosystems and Ecophysiology; International Journal of Biotechnology; International Journal of Agriculture Sciences; International Journal of Parasitology Research; Asian Journal of Experimental Biological Science; and The Ecotech and The Biosphere. Earlier, he was an Editor of the Indian Bee Journal for five years (1990–1994).
