Bellave Shivaram holds the M.S. degree in physics from IIT, Madras, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Northwestern University, USA. He was a Research Associate at the Frank Institute University, Chicago, and has also been associated with Argonne National Labs. He served recently as a Program Director in the Division of Materials Research at the US-NSF. Professor Shivaram has made presentations at many leading international institutions (Princeton, 1987; Florida, 1988; Michigan State, 1993; Tech. Hoch. Darmstadt, 1993; Bayreuth, 1993; Univ. Karlsruhe, 1993; Johns Hopkins, 1996, Intel Corp, 2000. His talks at international meetings include International Conference on Physics of Highly Correlated Electric Systems, Santa Fe, 1989; APS March Meeting, Anaheim, 1990; International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electric Systems, Sendai, 1992; International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electric Systems, Trieste, 1993; International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electric Systems, University of California, San Diego, 1993; International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electric Systems, Amsterdam, 1994; Gordon Research Conference "Strongly Correlated Electric Systems", in New Hampshire, 2000; 2nd International Symposium on Hydrogen in Matter, Uppsala, 2005. He has taught a range of courses in physics many bordering in materials science and electrical engineering.(Electronics, Intro. Solid State Phys, Undergrad. Phys. Lab, Stat. Phys., Adv. Stat. Mech., etc). He has also developed a new course "Introduction to Nanophysics" introducing students to recent developments in nanoscience and technology. In addition, he has constructed 3 new seminar courses at a popular level intended for freshman (superconductors and their applications, of materials and men, and the science of imaging). He has mentored 6 Ph.D. students and 6 postdoctoral candidates. He holds 1 patent "Cantilever having sensor system for independent measurement of force and torque," with M. Chaparala and S. H. Jones, US patent no. 6 237 399, June 2001, and has two other pending patents.
