Thierry Jaffredo serves as a Research Director at the CNRS. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris) following a work on oncogenes and development supervised by Dr Françoise Dieterlen in the “Institut d’Embryologie de Nogent sur Marne” headed by Pr. Nicole le Douarin. He funded his group while establishing the UPMC in 2002. His research interests are focusing on hematopoietic stem cell development using avian, mouse, and human embryo models. He was the first to demonstrate the endothelial origin of hematopoietic cells in the embryonic aorta and the role of the somite in shaping the aorta and controlling its hematopoiesis. He is a recognized expert in developmental biology and hematopoiesis. He is the Funder President of the UPMC Stem Cell Initiative Network and serves as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Stem Pole, a network supported by the Greater Paris region aiming at providing financial and organizational support in the work on stem cells and stem cell therapy.
