Stefan Limmer was born in Munich, Germany, in 1965. He received the M.D. degree from the Ludwigs-Maximilians University (LMU), Munich, Germany, in 1996. He successfully completed his surgical training as a resident both at the University of Munich and the University of Jena, Germany. In 2005, he specialized in general surgery. Since 2005, he serves as a Consultant at the Department of Surgery, University Hospital of Luebeck, Germany. In 2009, he specialized in thoracic surgery. Presently, he works as an Assistant Medical Director at the Department of Surgery. His main interests are visualization methods of the lungs, 3D reconstruction of lung tumors, volumetric measuring, and volume rendering of lung tumors. In 2007, he launched a study, proving the impact of 3D computer assistance in operative planning. He is a Member of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK, the German Society for Surgery, the German Society of General and Visceral Surgery, the German Society for Thoracic Surgery, and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
