Marco Gavanelli obtained his Laurea degree in computer science engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1998. He got the Ph.D. degree from the University of Modena and Reggio-Emilia in 2002. During his Ph.D. studies, he visited Imperial College in London, collaborating with Carmen Gervet. Since 2004, he has been a Ricercatore (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, Italy. His research interests focus primarily on logic programming and computational logic, mainly constraint logic programming and abductive logic programming. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of GULP (the Italian Interest Group on Logic Programming), Cochair of the RCRA Group (the Interest Group on Knowledge Representation and Automated Reasoning of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence), and Area Editor of the ALP Newsletter. He was a Guest Editor for the Journal of Algorithms, Fundamenta Informaticae, Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, and AI Communications. Gavanelli was a Conference Chair of the seventh International Conference on Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Operations Research (OR) techniques in Constraint Programming (CP-AI-OR 2010), organized the series of RCRA workshops from 2005 to 2011, and the workshop CILC 2009. He was a Senior PC Member of IJCAI 2011 and a PC Member of various conferences and workshops. He won the ICLP 2011 best paper award.
