Peter Hogan was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1948. He graduated from The National University of Ireland, specializing in mathematics and theoretical physics, with B.S., M.S. (1969), (1970), Ph.D. (1972), and D.S. (1988) degrees . His Ph.D. degree was awarded for research on equations of motion in general relativity and his D.S. degree for published work on classical electrodynamics, Yang-Mills gauge theory and general relativity (equations of motion, gravitational waves, exact solutions of Einstein's equations and cosmology). He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in The School of Theoretical Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, The Center for Relativity, University of Texas at Austin and The School of Mathematics, Trinity College Dublin. He has collaborated in Japan, South Africa, France, Poland, and the United States of America as well as in Ireland and has published work with R. Acharya, V. P. Frolov, T. Futamase, G. F. R. Ellis, C. Barrabès, A. Trautman, I. Robinson, W. Israel, and J. L. Synge, among others. He has published two research monographs Singular Null Hypersurfaces in General Relativity (World Scientific, Singapore, 2004) with C. Barrabès and Equations of Motion in General Relativity (Oxford University Press, 2010) with H. Asada and T. Futamase. He was elected as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy in 1994. He has been the recipient of research awards from CNRS, Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Université de Tours, The Canon Foundation in Europe, The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and Tohoku University.
