Ovidiu Ersen received his Ph.D. degree in solid state physics from the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France (2001). His Ph.D. topic was devoted to the determination of structural and magnetic properties of anisotropic Co-based thin layers deposited by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by methods using synchrotron radiation (such as diffraction anomalous fine structure, DAFS). Actually, he serves as an Associate Professor of the University of Strasbourg, France, at the IPCMS (Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg). His corresponding research areas include structural and chemical studies of nanoparticles and carbon-based nanomaterials (mesoporous systems, carbon nanotubes, and graphene), and 3D transmission electron microscopy (3D-TEM) in bright/dark field mode or combined with chemical imaging by electron energy loos spectroscopy (EELS).
