Marjan Jahanshahi was born in Iran and educated in the UK. After obtaining a first class degree in psychology from the University College London, she qualified as a clinical psychologist at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudslay Hospital. She then completed her Ph.D. degree on dystonia under the supervision of the late David Marsden at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, UK. She moved to the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, in 1988, where she has been working on higher motor control (selection, learning, inhibition), cognitive and psychosocial aspects of Parkinson's disease, and other movement disorders ever since. She is currently a Professor of clinical neurolpsychology and a Principal Investigator at the Sobell Department of Motor neuroscience and Movement Disorders. She is the coauthor of two books and has more than 130 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
