H. J. Thiel

Heinz-Jürgen Thiel was born in February 1949 in Oldenburg, Germany. During 1968–1973, he conducted studies of veterinary medicine at Tierärztliche Hochschule (TiHo), Hannover, Germany. In 1985, he obtained his Habilitation degree. During 1974–1978, he was a Research Associate at Max-Planck-Institut für Virusforschung (group of Dr. W. Schäfer), Tübingen, Germany. In 1978–1981, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgery, Duke University Medical Center (group of Dr. D. P. Bolognesi), USA. In 1981–1987, he was a Research Associate at the Federal Research Centre for Virus Diseases of Animals, Tübingen, Germany. In 1987–1994, he served as the Head of Federal Research Centre for Virus Diseases of Animals, Institute for Clinical Virology, Tübingen, Germany. Since 1995, he has been the Head of the Institute of Virology, FB Veterinärmedizin, Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen, Germany.
