Biljana Nigovic was born in Croatia, in 1963. She received the B.S. and the Ph.D. degrees from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 1987 and 1992, respectively. From 1987 to 1992, Nigovic was a Scientific Assistant in the X-ray Laboratory at Ruđjer Bošković Institute, Croatia. After finishing her Ph.D. degree, she moved to the Research Institute in Pliva Pharm. Ind. Inc. Since 1995, Nigovic has been employed at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Zagreb. Presently, she is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Analytics and Control of Medicines. She is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Croatian Chamber of Pharmacist since 2007. She has been teaching the courses of Pharmaceutical Analysis on Graduate Study and Polymorphism of Pharmaceuticals on Postgraduate Doctoral Study. Her research interests are application of electrochemistry to the analysis of pharmaceuticals and biological samples, electrochemical sensors in drug analysis, investigations of biological electron-transfer reaction, development of new capillary electrophoresis and high performance liquid chromatographic methods coupled with diode-array detector or mass spectrometry, separation, characterization, and quantification of some impurities in pharmaceutical active substances, development of new analytical procedures for identification and assaying of compounds of pharmaceutical and biomedical interest at trace level in biological fluids, X-ray structural analysis of biologically active molecules, and equilibrium and structural studies of metal complexes with pharmacologically active ligands.
