Marlene Benchimol received a degree in biology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, and completed the postgraduate studies in several stays in USA and Europe. Benchimol currently works as a Professor of cell biology at the University of Santa Úrsula in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, and Chief of the Laboratory of Cell Ultrastructure at the same university. Benchimol works on cell biology and ultrastructure of anaerobes parasites such as Trichomonas vaginalis, Tritrichomonas foetus, and Giardia intestinalis and is one of the leading research experts in the role of Trichomonas pseudocysts in the trichomoniasis and the process of encystation of Giardia. Benchimol serves in various grant review committees and peer-reviewed papers in several important journals.
