George Tsiamis serves as a Lecturer of environmental microbiology at the University of Western Greece, Greece. He received his first degree in agriculture from the Technological Educational Institute in Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed his M.S. degree in crop protection and his Ph.D. degree in molecular microbiology in the University of Reading, UK, and the University of London, Uk, respectively. During his Ph.D. degree and in the beginning of his postdoc era, his studies were focused on plant-microbe interactions while recently he also included insect-microbe interactions in his research interests. He returned to Greece with a long-term Fellowship from the European Molecular Biology Organization and he currently specializes in using omic technologies for the exploration and exploitation of microbial communities. He is currently leading a single cell genomics project funded from DOE-JGI.
