Yong Man Ro
Yong Man Ro received a Ph.D. degree from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul, Republic of Korea. In 1987, he served as a Researcher at the Columbia University, New York City, NY, USA, and from 1992 to 1995, he was a Visiting Researcher at the University of California, Irvine, and KAIST. He worked as a Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto in 1996 and 2007, respectively. He currently works as a Professor and as the Director of the Image Video System Laboratory in KAIST. Professor Ro participated in the international standardization efforts, contributing to the definition of the visual texture descriptor, the MPEG-21 DIA visual impairment descriptors, and modality conversion. His research interests include image/video processing, color face recognition, visual data mining, image/video indexing, and multimedia security. He has published more than 200 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He received the Young Investigator Finalist Award of ISMRM in 1992 and the Scientist Award in Korea in 2003. He served as a TPC Member and the co-program chair of many international conferences.
