Antonio E. Pinto
Antó nio E. Pinto was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1954. He received his M.D. degree from the Medical Faculty of Coimbra, University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, in 1978. He obtained his specialisation in clinical pathology at the Hospital Pulido Valente, Lisboa, Portugal, in 1987. He earned fellowship at the Service of Clinical Immunology, Necker Hospital, Paris, under tutelage of Professor Jean François Bach, in 1987/88. Pinto has been Consultant Clinical Pathologist at the Portuguese Cancer Institute (IPO), Lisboa, Portugal, since 1990. Additionally, he was responsible for the Laboratory of Biochemistry of IPO, from 1993 to 1998, and he has been in charge of the Flow Cytometry Section of the Cytometry and Cytogenetic Laboratory (presently, Laboratory of Special Techniques), the Department of Histopathology at IPO, since 1991. He is mainly interested in the investigation of the molecular pathology (oncobiological pathways, prognostic/predictive biomarkers) of breast and thyroid cancer tumorigenesis and its translation to the clinical practice and therapeutic management.
