Marija Mostarica-Stojkovié was born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1948. She graduated from the University of Belgrade School of Medicine in 1973 where she also obtained her Ph.D. degree in immunology (1985) and a professorship at the Institue of Microbiology and Immunology (1991). Her postdoctoral training was at Max-Planck-Society-Clinical Research Unit for Multiple Sclerosis, Würzburg, Germany (1986), and Laboratory for Neuroimmunology, The Wistar Institute, Philadelphia, Pa, USA (1990–1991). She was the President of Yugoslav Immunological Society, and Vice-Dean for Research at the University of Belgrade School of Medicine. Her main research interest is the role of cytokines in immunoregulation and pathogenesis of organ-specific autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis and its animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. She has published more than 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and participated in international meetings as an Invited Speaker. She served as a Reviewer for several scientific journals (Clinical and Experimental Immunology, Croatian Journal of Medicine, etc).
