Klaus Kirsten

Klaus Kirsten received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in theoretical physics from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1988 and 1992, respectively. After a one-year visiting professorship at the University of Trento, Italy, he received the Feodor Lynen Fellowship of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to go to Barcelona, Spain, for two years. A research fellowship of the German Research Foundation allowed him to spend four years at the University of Leipzig, Germany, where he received the Habilitation degree in mathematical physics in 2000. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of the United Kingdom enabled him to spend two years at the University of Manchester, England. From there he went back to Leipzig, but this time as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences. In 2003, he joined the Department of Mathematics at Baylor University, Waco, Tex, USA, where he became a Full Professor in 2006. He published more than 100 research papers and one book, was featured in IOP's “60 seconds with...Authors Edition,” and recently received an award from the US National Science Foundation in the area of Casimir effect.
