Byung-Cheul Shin obtained Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees in oriental medicine from the Wonkwang University, Republic of Korea, and an M.S. degree in public health from the Chonbuk National University, Republic of Korea. He currently serves as an Associate Professor at the School of Korean Medicine, the Pusan National University, Republic of Korea, and a Chief of the Spine and Joint center at the Korean Medicine Hospital, the Pusan National University. He served as a Chairperson at the Korean Society of Chuna Manual medicine for Spine and Nerves (Ca. 2012) and Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Chuna Manual medicine for Spine and Nerves (Ca. 2011). He worked at the Editorial Board of the Journal of Chinese Integrative Medicine (Ca. 2011) and the Open Pain Journal (Ca. 2011). He acted as the Director of the Korean Academy of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine (from 2005 to 2011). His area of expertise includes evidence-based medicine for traditional Korean medicine, especially acupuncture, East-West integrative medicine for spine and joint disease, pain medicine, systematic review, Cochrane review, Meta-analysis for CAM or integrative medicine, and clinical trials for traditional Korean medicine.
