Chris Winkelman

Chris Winkelman is a Nurse and Nurse Educator located in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Her clinical expertise is in adult critical care/intensive care unit (ICU) nursing. She completed a fellowship in genetics at the National Institutes of Health in 2001 and has a special interest in genomics and genetic expression related to inflammation. Currently, Winkelman teaches physiology and pharmacology to advanced practice nursing students as well as clinical/classroom courses in the acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP) tract in the master of nursing (MSN) program. Her research focuses on critically ill adults, specifically how mechanically ventilated adults are positioned and receive activity to promote recovery when their illness is prolonged. Winkelman has incorporated biomarkers of inflammation as one strategy to monitor and evaluate patient responses to exercise while in the ICU. She is active in a number of professional organizations. Winkelman is committed to multidisciplinary practice, research, and education, regularly contributing to international scholarship through publications and presentations
