R. Poli

University of Essex, United Kingdom

Riccardo Poli received the Ph.D. degree in bioengineering, in 1993, from the University of Florence, Italy, where he worked on image analysis, genetic algorithms, and neural networks until 1994. From 1994 to 2001, he was a lecturer and then a reader in the School of Computer Science of the University of Birmingham, UK. In 2001, he became a Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Essex, where he founded the Natural and Evolutionary Computation Group. Professor Poli has published around 220 papers on evolutionary algorithms, genetic programming, particle swarm optimisation, neural networks, and image analysis and signal processing, including the book Foundations of Genetic Programming (Springer, 2002). He has been Cochair of EuroGP, the European Conference on GP, in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2003. He was Chair of the GP theme at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) in 2002 and 2007 and Cochair of the Foundations of Genetic Algorithms Workshop (FOGA) in 2002. He was General Chair of GECCO 2004 and Technical Cochair of the Fifth International Workshop on Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence (ANTS) in 2006. Professor Poli is an Associate Editor of the Evolutionary Computation Journal, the Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines Journal, and the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Research. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Artificial Evolution and Applications and Member of the Editoral Board of the Journal of Swarm Intelligence.
