Vahit Ozmen graduated in the honorary list, first, from Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty (IUIMF) in 1978. He completed general surgery residency in 1982 at IUIMF and promoted to assistant and associate professor positions in 1986 and 1987, respectively. He holds Full Professor position in IUIMF since 1995. Dr. Ozmen served as a Member of Board of Directors of Istanbul Medical Faculty for two terms from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Ozmen accepted a Postdoctoral Fellowship position invitation from the Department of Surgery, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA, and worked on several basic science and clinical research projects focused on surgical oncology/breast cancer and gastroenterology from 1989 to 1991. Between 1993 and 2002, he worked as a Research Scholar and/or Visiting Professor in M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Mayo Clinic, Baylor School of Medicine and Tokai University. He is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons and American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Ozmen is a Founder Member and General Secretary of The World Society for Breast Health (WSBH), and the Founder and/or Member of many societies including Turkish Federation of Breast Societies. Dr. Ozmen is the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Breast Health since 2005 and a Reviewer in many prestigious journals (e.g., The journal of American College of Surgeons, The World Journal of Surgery, The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, European Journal of Surgical Oncology, etc.). He authored and coauthored more than 200 scientific manuscripts in Turkish and English appearing in peer-reviewed journals and surgical textbooks. He received Best Study Award in 1st Congress of WSBH, Honorable Mention-Certificate of Merit by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and Honorary Diploma from Bulgarian Surgical Society which are a few of the multiple national and international awards and honors that he received.
