Costas Providakis

Costas Providakis was born in Chania, Greece, in 1960. He received the Structural Engineering degree and the PhD degree in the area of Mechanics of Materials from the University of Patras, Greece, Patras, Greece, in 1973 and 1988, respectively. Since 2003, C. Providakis is a Professor and serves as the Director of Applied Mechanics Lab in the Department of Applied Sciences, Technical University of Crete, Greece. He has published more than 150 journal and conference articles and 2 books on Engineering Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Structural Health Monitoring, Structural analysis, Failure analysis, Smart materials and System dynamics and Control. He serves on the editorial boards of the Techscience Press Structural Durability and Health Monitoring International Journal. He has given invited lectures and short courses in Italy (1998-1999), Germany, England and Spain in the area of Mechanics of materials and Fracture Mechanics. He has been invited as an invited speaker in several international conferences USA and Europe. He has served as Chairman of the theses of 3 doctoral and 16 master's students. C. Providakis directs a group of 6 graduate students. He has extensive consulting experience as technical advisor and Expert Witness.
