Keith M. Erikson

University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA

Keith M. Erikson received his Ph.D. degree in nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in pharmacology and toxicology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. These experiences forged his interest in trace metals research, particularly the interactions of trace elements (iron and manganese) in the developing brain and the neurological consequences associated with inadequate dietary intake of these nutrients. Much of his research involves potential mechanisms of manganese neurotoxicity primarily involving the neurochemical aspects of this toxicological disorder. Recently, as a Researcher, he has been examining how dietary components can exacerbate (iron) or ameliorate (polyphenols) manganese neurotoxicity which has therapeutic implications for neurotoxicities related to metals exposure as well as to neurodegenerative diseases.
