Maria C. Olianas
Maria C. Olianas was born in Cagliari, Italy, in 1950. She received her Ph.D. degree in biology (summa cum laude) from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy, in 1973. From 1973 to 1974, she has been a Postdoctorate Fellow at the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Cagliari. For three consecutive years starting from 1975 to 1978, she served as a Research Fellow at the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Modena, Italy, in 1975, and then at the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Cagliari. In 1978/1979, she has been a Visiting Scientist at the Psychopharmacological Research Laboratory of St. Hans Mental Hospital in Roskilde, Denmark. Throughout the years from 1980 to 1983, she has worked as Visiting Associate at the Laboratory of Preclinical Pharmacology, NIMH, St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, DC, USA. Since 1980, she has been occupying the position of Research Associate at the Section of Biochemical Pharmacology, the Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University of Cagliari. Her main scientific interest is focused on intracellular signaling mechanisms of neurotransmitter receptor particularly acetylcholine, muscarinic, opioid, and GABA B receptors. Dr. Olianas is a Member of the Society for Neuroscience, the International Society for Neurochemistry, the International Brain Research Organization, and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Dr. Olianas is the author of 102 publications listed in PubMed in the field of neuropharmacology and neurochemistry.
