Matthias Feichtinger works as an Assistant Medical Director in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria. He was certified as a medical doctor in 1996, as a dentist in 1999, as a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2002, and as a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2007. The awards he has received include the Hans Pichler Prize of the Austrian Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2009 and an award of the assessment of tumour margins in head and neck cancer using a 3D-navigation system based on PET/CT image-fusion. His main fields of activity include 3D computer-assisted surgery in the head and neck region, minimal-invasive image-guided surgery based on PET/CT image-fusion, ablative and reconstructive Surgery in the head and neck region, nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in the head and neck region, cleft lip and palate surgery, orthognathic surgery, and surgery of tumours in the orbital region. He has served as a lecturer and a member of the organizing committee of the “Microsurgical reconstruction in cranio-maxillo-facial surgery” (biennial), under the auspices of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery; and the “Microvascular surgery” workshop (yearly), under the auspices of the Austrian Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
