Ion Paraschivoiu holds the Ph.D. degree. He is a Professor at École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada, and the Founder and the President of IOPARA Inc., Montréal, QC, Canada. He has over 35 years of experience in conducting research, teaching, and providing services for major companies and research centers worldwide on problems related to wind turbine aerodynamics, performance prediction and optimal design, and aircraft icing and anti-icing. Being a Professor at École Polytechnique de Montréal, Dr. Paraschivoiu has won many industry and academic awards for his research and publications and has developed world renowned simulation and analysis software. The CARDAAV, CARDAAX, and CARDAAS-1D/-3D computer codes, based on the double-multiple stream tube model, have been constantly improved in order to produce an efficient software package appropriate for the needs of VAWT designers and more than 100 authors have cited the research work related to these computer codes. The CANICE computer code is capable of simulating ice accretion and anti-icing on single or multielement airfoil and wing configurations. CANICE is one of the five major icing simulation codes in the world and has been approved by Transport Canada to be used for the certification of Bombardier aircraft in icing conditions.
