As a distinct part of the dendritic cell system, Langerhans cells are important sentinels of the immune system in the skin. The scope of the workshop will be the immunobiology of Langerhans cells under physiological and, even more importantly, pathological conditions. Langerhans cells are involved in many dermatological diseases (e.g., SLE, atopic dermatitis, skin cancers, etc.) in ways that are currently being investigated.
