Forest Structure, Nutrients, and Pentaclethra macroloba Growth after Deforestation of Costa Rican Lowland Forests

Table 2

Comparison of the relative contribution (RC) of soil dissolved organic carbon (DOC), carbon dioxide (CO2), and microbial biomass (Biomass) within primary and secondary forests with P. macroloba as the dominant N-fixing tree within the MNWLR of Costa Rica. The difference in the RC values is expressed as the ratio of RC primary to RC secondary. The ratio of the RC values for biomass to CO2 and to DOC is given for both the primary and secondary forest soils. From these values, a comparison is given of the ratio of values biomass to CO2 and biomass to DOC, comparing the primary to secondary forest values.
