Examination of Strength Modeling Reliability of Physical Tests on Structural Concrete Columns

Table 5

Summary of strength ratio statistics for usual reinforced concrete and composite columns ( and ).

Column type (%) Strength ratio statistics
FEMCSA

Reinforced concrete 3.0–30.00.03–1.250.1–2.91651.00 (0.13)1.05 (0.14)
Composite 3.8–28.90.03–1.060.0–2.9670.98 (0.13)1.09 (0.19)

Combined3.0–30.00.03–1.250.0–2.92320.99 (0.13)1.06 (0.16)

The statistics shown are the average values (and coefficients of variation in parentheses) of the ratios of tested to computed strengths. The computed strengths are those from FEM and CSA.
The computed reinforced concrete column minimum (maximum) strength ratios are 0.63 (1.36) for FEM and 0.63 (1.70) for CSA, and = 1.0%–6.9%.
The computed composite column minimum (maximum) strength ratios are 0.71 (1.28) for FEM and 0.78 (1.87) for CSA, = 2.7%–14.5%, and = 0.0%–3.1%.
