Materials, Systems, and Tools for Sustainable Infrastructure Design and Construction
Call for Papers
As the global construction industry continues to grow and evolve, its impact on the environment and, in particular, natural resources has reached an alarming level. Environmental impact includes but is not limited to GHG emissions, pollution from construction sites, disposal of construction, and demolition waste, while major aspects of impact on natural resources include depletion of energy resources and raw materials and deforestation. Aggressive research agendas and funding have accompanied the construction boom to minimize its negative impact on the environment and natural resources. The research agenda is wide in scope and interdisciplinary in nature and covers areas of waste management, energy-efficient buildings, sustainable design and construction, recycled materials, renewable energy, and life-cycle assessment, among others. This proposal aims at documenting the latest research in specific areas within the realm of sustainable construction. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Management and applications for reuse of construction and demolition waste
- Recycled materials, such as recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), recycled asphalt shingles (RASs), and rubber tires
- Cold in-place recycling
- Innovative materials, such as engineered cement composites, self-cleaning concrete, warm mix asphalt, and hempcrete
- Energy harvesting and photocatalytic pavements
- Porous pavements
- Application of biomimicry concepts (e.g., design with nature) in civil engineering
- Green construction and production processes
- Life-cycle assessment
- Carbon footprint evaluation of buildings and roadways
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ace/guidelines/.
