Applications of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering

Call for Papers

Information system techniques in the field of civil engineering were mainly launched at the system development of structural analysis and design, but now they are expected to be applied to various fields along with development of the hardware/software of computer technologies.

For architectural or civil structures, economical and environmental rationality, harmony with the landscape, and beauty and symbolicity as the social stocks must be considered as well as the reliability or safety of social systems. In addition, the satisfaction and the Kansei of people are important ingredients essential to be considered for those infrastructures. To establish an effective plan and design of architectural or civil structures with high and wide range of recent various requirements, soft computing techniques such as fuzzy logic, neural network, nature-inspired search algorithms, rough set, and chaos theory have been expected to become one of promising tools that can provide practical and reasonable solutions.

For the purpose of discussing the future of the desirable information systems, a special issue is planned on the application of soft computing in civil engineering. In the special issues, research papers associated with applications of soft computing techniques in the field of civil engineering are cordially invited. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Model construction
• Theoretical validation
• New optimization techniques
• New simulation techniques
• Practical applications of soft computing techniques in structural engineering, earthquake engineering, water resource engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, urban planning, environmental engineering, and so forth
