From Coherent States in Adjacent Graphene Layers toward Low-Power Logic Circuits

Figure 6

Energy bands of two graphene layers separated by 1.0 nm of SiO2 ( = 3.9), having layer potentials of /2 (top layer—blue) and /2 (bottom layer—red) in the uncoupled state (solid lines) along the high-symmetry directions in the Brillouin zone (shown above). = 0.5 eV. Phase coherence between layers creates a correlated, lower energy state (black dash-dotted lines). The inset magnifies the low energy-spectrum, revealing a band gap of 74 meV at 0 K for balanced top and bottom layer charge distributions with located within the band gap.
