Laser and Ion Beams Interactions with Materials

Call for Papers

Laser and ion beams, as important energetic sources, provide the ability to accurately deliver large amounts of energy into confined regions of a material and induce changes to the local geometrical and electronic structure, consequently affecting materials properties and behaviors in a given application. They have become indispensible and powerful tools in the fields ranging from materials science to biomedicine and can be used for various applications, including surface modification, thin-film deposition, materials processing, and nanostructure formation. Understanding of laser and ion beams interactions with materials will enable scientists to explore materials structures and properties under extreme conditions like intense laser and ion irradiation, to manipulate and engineer materials properties, and to design novel and innovative materials and devices with enhanced and improved performance or desirable properties. To promote the ongoing international research and present the recent theoretical and experimental advances in the study of various processes induced by laser and ion beams, we call for papers on laser and ion beams interactions with materials. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that encompass the fundamentals of laser-material and ion beam-material interactions and the applications of laser and ion beams for modifying, processing, and manufacturing of electronic, photonic, optical, mechanical, and energy materials. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Fundamental physics and chemistry in laser- and ion beam-induced processes
  • Defects generation and effects of defects on materials properties
  • Laser and ion beams modification of materials (annealing, doping, intermixing, new phase formation or phase transformation, etc.) for applications in optics, optoelectronics, and photonics
  • Laser and ion beam processing and manufacturing of optical, electronic, or optoelectronic material for advanced devices and integrated systems, as well as laser facilities
