Building Energy Efficiency and Healthy Indoor Environment

Call for Papers

People spend almost 90% of their time indoors. Thus, indoor air quality (IAQ) can have a significant impact on human health, comfort, and productivity. The energy consumption of the building sector is about one-third of the total energy consumption allover the world. Therefore, more attention should be paid for building energy efficiency and indoor environment. Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) play an important role in the built environment, and the energy consumption of HVAC is more than 50% of the total energy consumed by the whole building. Air distribution caused by air terminal devices (ATDs), air handling unit (AHU) and delivery systems of conditioned air and chilled/chilling water, and chiller/boiler plants are the main contributors of indoor environment. Any progress in the three parts of HVAC system will benefit the healthy indoor environment and/or building energy efficiency.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to improve the efficiency of HVAC system. We are particularly interested in articles related to efficient air distribution that satisfies nonuniform requirement with less energy. Articles aiming to increase the energy performance of chillers, heat pumps, and boilers are also welcome. Special welcome is dedicated to those articles which are related to decrease the energy consumption of delivery process of air and water. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Air distribution and thermal comfort
  • Chiller, Heat pump, and Boiler
  • High-temperature cooling
  • Low-temperature heating
  • Humidification and dehumidification
  • Cleaning of contaminant
  • Identification of contaminant source
  • Commissioning
