Hourly accumulated precipitation (unit: mm) for the convective case that occurred on July 23, 2009, in Beijing, China. The 3-hour (left column) and 4-hour (right column) forecasts are initialized at 0600 UTC by a 3 hourly cycled WRF 3D-Var. The radar QPE ((a) and (b)) is used to verify the experiments that assimilate radar radial velocity ((c) and (d)) only and that assimilate both radial velocity and rain water mixing ratio derived from reflectivity ((e) and (f)) (from [27]).
